Revelations and End Time Prophesy

I listen to Christian talk radio occasionally, mostly in the evenings on the car radio. It seems I always catch programs related to "End time prophesy". I have to admit, it's fascinating and captivating to listen to. I find myself arriving at my destination, then sitting in the car for 30 minutes glued to the radio.
Some of these people have studied the book of Revelations, Daniel and other resources to an incredible degree and what they have to say is truly fascinating. I'll be the first to admit that they could be 100% on the mark also.
So I was thinking to myself, maybe I should start studying Revelations so I could effectively talk about this subject and then it hit me, "What would be the point?" Sure it's a popular subject, but just how would this help or benefit anyone. Even if I were to nail this down to the day and exact minute, How would that benefit me or my family or anyone else?
It's kind of like in the Church today, those who are not claiming to be prophets are those seeking one. Personally, I don't need to have a prophet foretell what tomorrow is going to bring for me, I only need to know that if I delight myself in the Lord, he will give me the desires of my heart.
Also, I don't need to know the exact day, hour and minute concerning end time prophesy, I just need to be ready. Jesus said that no one except the father knows the day and hour, not even him. But, he did say that we could tell when it was near by the signs.
Guess what? It's near! It's not quite at our front door yet, but it's down the street and moving at a pretty good speed. Don't get so wrapped up in the hype, that you forget to be ready. Considering that "personal relationship" yet?
