Grocery Store Demons
Link: http://www.powerofaith.com
Okay, these ladies are not really demons, they just act like they have one. They are to grocery shoppers, what sin is to Christians. "An obstacle to overcome". I do the majority of the grocery shopping for my family. (does that surprise you)
I usually wait until later in the evening to shop to avoid running into these "grocery store demons", (you see, this kind comes out mostly during the day) but to no avail. I enter the store with my little list of things my wife and kids have written down informing me, that we're out of. I grab a cart. (sounds easy so far right?)
I usually pick up the first couple of items on the list and things appear to be running pretty smooth. Then as I turn the corner to head down the isle for the next item, "there she is". She looked different last time, but I know it's her. Last time she was in the form of a thin much older woman. This time it had taken the form of a woman in her mid 30's, slightly overweight.
But I knew it was her, because she was "BLOCKING THE WHOLE DANG ISLE AGAIN!!" Yes! It does have the power to block an entire isle using only a human body and a shopping cart. But, the worst part is, "it knows and It's aware!". Yes, you can edge your cart closer, clear your throat loudly, tap your foot . . etc, but nothing works against this particular evil spirit!
You simply get ignored and are forced to wait while she reads the fine print on the can of pea's she is holding. So, I would finally say: "EXCUSE ME!! - I'M NOT IN YOUR WAY AM I?" - This is of course a "no win" situation, because, even though she moves her cart and lets you through, you walk away feeling bad saying to yourself, "That wasn't the way God would have liked me to handle it".
So, I tried a different approach the next time. I was walking along the back of the store, where all of the isles empty out too. The isle was extremely wide. On one side was the refrigerated displays that come up to about your waist, the other side, the ends of the isles.
Looking back on this incident, I really think this particular woman should be praised. What she did seemed impossible. Although the Isle was "very" wide, she managed to block it completely using only her petite body and a shopping cart. I wouldn't have thought it possible, but "she did it". (and ignored me)
So, trying a different approach, I picked up my shopping cart and carried it over her cart to get through. I muttered: "That's ok, don't move out of the way just for me". Well, needless to say, It made me feel worse afterward than it did her. Hey, I'm a work in progress just like you, remember? Pray for me! (I'm a sick man)
Beware of grocery store demons! They will bring out the worst in you. (Time to go back and read the red letters)
