"Are you Delighted Yet?"
I was asked: "How do you delight yourself in the Lord?" The question sort of came at me unexpectedly, so I replied, "Me personally?" The reply was: "No, anyone". So I couldn't help but think, what answer would you get if you asked your local pastor or one of the many famous TV evangelists.
I'm sure the answers would vary, depending on who you asked. Those who are into prophesy and tongues might recommend the "Fake it till you make it" technique that they apply to speaking in tongues. That technique is simply to just "babble" until it comes to you.
The self proclaimed prophets will probably recommend "their" technique. That you take a class from them and learn from a "master" prophet until you cultivate it and are ready.
The TV evangelists will probably tell you to pledge $10,000.00 that you don't have. Then God will bless you so much that you will just naturally "Delight in the Lord". I could go on and on, but I've already written about these ridiculous things on my website.
So, to put it short, I could only reply to the question from my own personal experience. I said: To delight in the Lord is similar to a child saying "My dad can beat up "your" dad!" My wife and I will talk about how God has done certain things in our life and say: "God is really cool isn't he?" "That is delighting in the Lord"
We humans think we are so smart and advanced. We can clone a person, but we can't create one! That only makes us a cheap black & white Xerox machine. We can send a man to the moon, but we can't create a moon. That just makes us fleas jumping from one dog to another.
We can grow a tree and draw or paint a tree, and we can manipulate its design a little, but we can't "make" one! Compared to God, we are still bumbling cave men who think we are equal to God because we have discovered "fire".
So, for me, to delight myself in the Lord? That happens often. Especially when I look at something beautiful, like a flower, a sunset or my wife. Or just pick from the millions of different biological or plant species on this earth. For each and every one, I can say, Wow! He didn't copy that from anyone! He make it from nothing with no guideline to follow.
Sure, we can sit down and invent a brand new tree in our mind, then draw it on paper, because we already know what a tree looks like. (basically) But what kind of mind can create all these things from scratch? Where nothing like it ever existed before? (nothing to go by)
So, can I go out in my back yard with my two Jack Russell Terriers, look at a tree and delight in the Lord? You bet I can. These are things that we should all feel, but very few do. We are a self absorbed society. If you want to bring this all closer to home, seek the personal relationship with God that I talk about so often.
When I watched God crush my enemies on my behalf and he even made a judge who made it very clear, that he just short of hated my guts, rule in my favor, You bet, I delighted in the Lord! (true)
GET TO KNOW GOD! The personal relationship I talk about so often? DO IT! If you do, this is what it's like. In every city, there are areas of that city that you just wouldn't want to be alone in after dark. (Especially here in Flint Michigan) But, would you be afraid to go in that same area, or even into one of the worst bars there if you were with a friend?
What if your friend loved you and would die for you? What if that friend was 6' 9" tall, 280 pounds, a 3rd degree Black belt in karate and carried a gun? Would it bother you to be in that part of town then? Got news for ya! God is just a little tougher than that! And he loves you. He not only would die for you, he already did it!
To put things in perspective: The bad area of town is earth. "Satan is the ruler of this world" (I'm not a wacko, Jesus said this in scripture) The friend that is with you is "God". Are you still afraid? If so, back up and read my blog on 03/16/2008. I don't know about you, but I delight just knowing he's there!
