"Breaking Newton's Law" - and living in peace
Link: http://www.powerofaith.com/marage.htm
Newton's Law! "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction". Though it may not be what Newton had in mind, this law especially applies within a marriage. Your spouse says something mean and hateful to you, then what do you do? You retaliate of course. (you're only human)
The problem is you can't put out a fire by throwing gasoline on it. The only way to put out this particular kind of fire is to either let it burn out, (run out of fuel) or douse it with kindness. Anything other than that is simply adding fuel to it. If you want peace in your home, you have to be the one to "Break Newton's Law".
Is this easy? No way! It's one of the hardest things you'll ever do. It is not our nature to simply shut up when someone is hurling insults at us. However, it is the nature of Christ. If you hit a tire with a hammer, it will come back and hit you in the face! (don't try this at home folks, I'm a professional)
Will Rogers: "Never miss a good chance to shut up"
Proverbs 10:19 - When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable, But he who restrains his lips is wise.
This advice isn't a "cure all" for every problem in your marriage or your life, but it works!
