"Have you been called into the ministry?"
A hunger to serve in the ministry is exactly what you should have. The lord never intended for us to find any one "so called" holy person, preacher, priest, guru, reverend, Rabbi, etc... then subject ourselves to them for the rest of our lives. Instead, Jesus told us to "Make Disciples". This means you learn all you can, then you tell others and teach them to do the same.
Matthew 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
Matthew 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
You see, millions of people shop around, find the right church that suits them, then they attend once a week for the rest of their life. This is not exactly the way Jesus intended it to be. We are "all" called into the ministry. First we become a disciple, then we go out and "make" disciples.
If you’ve had a whole catalogue of things happen in your life, by all means share them and use your experience to help others. One of the biggest problems with the modern day church is, most of them are headed by someone that was pumped out of a college somewhere, and the only testimony they have is that they once coveted their neighbors shoes!
You can’t have a testimony without a test! Just make sure you never forget, you are not making disciples of "You", you are making disciples of "Christ". Don’t desire a leadership position, as Jesus was very clear about that.
Matthew 23:10 "Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, that is, Christ".
You see, millions of pastors, reverends etc, are boldly proclaiming themselves as "spiritual leaders", when in truth they are claiming a position that belongs to Christ alone. Jesus gave us an example by washing his disciples feet.
You are supposed to "be" the ministry, and if you want your ministry to be successful, be a servant, not a king or queen. If the lord sends you a helper in the form of a spouse, be prepared to "be the helper" and not to just accept him as one.
By all means, if you’ve gone through experiences in life that can help others by sharing them, do so! But you would be wise to desire only to do the will of God, and not the position itself. All the big TV evangelists you see riding around in Limo’s, living in mansions and wearing gaudy diamond rings, are not the goal to achieve or to emulate. They have their reward now. Store up your reward for later.
When you are ready, God will send those to you that need to hear what you have to say. (Trust me) Just be sure, when God opens a door for you, you are ready to step through it. Don’t try to be the carpenter, be the tool he uses. God has great things in store for you!
