"Harry Potter"
For a while if you remember, the Christian community was "Outraged" about the movie Harry Potter. I must admit that at that time, I jumped on the bandwagon too. I have 4 children and refused to let them go to the theatre (even with a school field trip) to see this movie.
To send your children to see this movie was right up there with enrolling them in a Satanic cult! I mean, it was the buzz! It's all you heard about. As I said, I was right there condemning it too!
Finally, when the movie reached the video stores, I decided to rent it and see exactly what the buzz was all about. To my horror, I found out after watching it myself, that it was . . Dare I say it? Okay, I'll just blurt it out! "entertaining". (Sorry, that's it)
Sure, it involves magic, wizards and the like, but I found these same elements in "The Sorcerers Apprentice", "Snow White" and other Disney films. Not to mention Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast and several others. Witches, fairy God mothers, magic, you name it.
If left alone, this movie would have been taken for exactly what it is "entertaining". Instead, a few righteous Christians started a movement that made J.K. Rowling a "very" wealthy woman. (She must Love Christians) Otherwise, this movie would have ended up as just a flash in the pan.
A couple of self rightous Christians started something and the rest of the Christian world "jumped on the bandwagon", just like I did. The sad thing is, they did much more harm than good, in many different ways.
I have a 18 year old daughter (soon to be 19) that is afraid to watch this movie to this day, because of what the Church has told her. I'm sure she's not the only one.
After I reviewed it, I watched the movie with my two boys. The only big deal about this movie, is what the churches have made out of it. I'm sorry, but like Snow White and the apple, if you are afraid your children will find this sort of thing "too" appealing, do what I did. Sit down, watch it with them and explain about the "true" nature of magic and witchcraft and the danger of it.
Our duty is to preach or pass on the gospel of Jesus Christ, Not to police the rest of the world. The gospel of Jesus Christ is nothing but uplifting! If it is anything but uplifting, you'll find that someone, somewhere has added something to it, that Christ didn't put in it.
When we try to police everyone else as to what they can say or do or watch, (especially those who have not accepted Christ yet) we reduce Jesus to a policeman or cheap dictator.
Let God do the saving! We are nothing but a road sign to point people too him. If you really wonder why the rest of the world is turned off by Christianity, it's because we are often not very Christian ourselves and we over step our authority.
We are not called to be judges, we are called to be witnesses!

The lightning bolt is used often in military insignia with different meanings. On the U.S. Air Force Department seal, it refers to air power
(1). For the Army's 1st Signal Brigade in Vietnam, it stood for communication (2). In the Army's 207th Military Intelligence Brigade, it means electronic warfare and the ability to strike anywhere
(3). Speed is the meaning of the lightning bold in the insignia of the Army's 729th Support Battalion
4). On the seal of the USS Harry S. Truman -- where a golden eagle clutches a lightning bolt -- it simply means strength and power.
You can find something to complain about in almost anything. Do you have a Christmas tree in your house in December? Do you celebrate Easter with eggs, candy and baskets etc...? How about Halloween? You are right about one thing though. It is our duty as parents to teach our children! (Not scare the hell out of them as though the enemy is more powerful than God)
In any warfare, it makes strategic since to "Know your enemy". Not hide and deny the information of them. Do you believe for a moment that a person with body piercings, can not call out to God and be saved?
Sorry, We were not called to be "Hit men for Jesus", we were called to share the good news! And this is it.
Acts 2:21 'AND IT SHALL BE THAT EVERYONE WHO CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.'
God Bless You - Stay in touch
