"Rule of Thumb"
Link: http://www.powerofaith.com/word.htm
Here is an interesting saying that we use all the time. "Rule of Thumb" But, do you know where it came from? Better yet, do you know what it means?
It originates from England. There is an old English law from a long time ago, possibly still on the books, that states "You can not beat your wife with anything wider than your thumb". (true)
If you're anything like me, you just figure that takes the fun out of everything, and if I can't use anything wider than "that", I just won't beat her at all. Darn It! (Of course I'm kidding)
Now these days, we interperet it to mean "a standard in which to go by" or a "measure of common sense". So, I'll give you a rule of thumb. A quote from Dan Douglass. Wherever you go, church, convention, or just watching TV.
"If it's for sale, It's probably "not" God selling it"
