 No doubt Halloween has become more questionable
throughout the years. These days more than ever,
Halloween is to Wiccan’s and Satanist’s what Christmas
is to Christians. It "is" their BIG holiday. It used
to be, when most of us were growing up, the worst we had
to fear was some bully (older kid) steeling our candy and
running off with it. I'm afraid times have changed to
the degree that this is the least of our worries these
days. I’m not sure telling your kids "no to
trick-or-treating" is the right thing to do though.
It’s like setting out a huge buffet of candy
and ice cream for hundreds of kids and then saying:
"Everyone can help themselves - except you". It hardly
makes them want to say "Thank you Jesus" does it?
When my kids were trick or treat age, (not very long
ago) I found a few alternatives. Between now and
Halloween, keep your eyes open and read the church
marquee’s. Many churches now days have what is called
"Trunk or Treat".
It is where allot of Christian’s get together and
line their cars along side of each other, (usually in a
Church parking lot) with the
trunks filled with candy. You can go from church to
Church and your kids will make out like bandits from
just one of them. It’s allot less walking for both you
and your children and they are less likely to receive
apples with razor blades, poison candy etc...
If you can’t find one, why not go to your local
church and "start one". Then have them advertise it on
their marquee between now and Halloween. Your kids might
even have more fun handing out candy, than they would
receiving it. Also, you can take your kids to neighbors
and relatives houses. You can even pay for the candy
that they give to them. (This way, they get only the
candy they really like and allot of it - McDonalds
certificates are good too)
Whatever you decide to do, make sure your kids are
being watched on that evening. It is a day that
celebrates evil. Remember, it doesn’t take hundreds of
evil people to ruin your life on that night, "just one".
