Hey! That's great! Even if it's only one month out of the year, I'll take it! There's decorations, there's carolers, Choirs, Plays and cantatas and people speak to people they would normally avoid the other 11 months of the year, even if it "is" only to say "Merry Christmas". It's the right idea, but too bad we only do it 1/365th of the time we are required to. One day a year. Actually, we've made a religious day out of something that is totally "not" backed by scripture as our other ceremonies and religious days are. (Feast of Tabernacles, Feast of Trumpets, Passover etc . . .) Now don't think I'm Poo Pooing Christmas, because I'm not! However, I will point out that Jesus did not say "Remember my birthday every year!" What Jesus "did" say was: 1 Corinthians 11:24 - and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me."1 Corinthians 11:25 - In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, The point is, Jesus did not ask that we remember him one day a year on his birthday (which strangely got turned into a day when we honor everyone else with gifts), Jesus instead gave us an easy way to remember him at specific times. We call it "Communion" (However, "he" did not) Jesus wanted us to remember and honor him every single day! (Geesh! How selfish can you get?) Jesus picked something that we do every day "Eating and drinking" and asked that we think of him when we do it! That is what Communion is! It has been hijacked by the religious folks and the meaning of communion has been perverted to the point that it has been turned into a big ceremony with priests in flowing robes sticking Styrofoam simulated crackers in our mouths, the same texture as packaging peanuts and handing us a thimble full of grape juice. (What's next - Bubble wrap?) Jesus knew that we are simple, so he made it simple! We need to eat every day for nourishment, so he asked that when we do so, we think of him and the sacrifice he made for us. No more, no less! For more insight about Communion, read my article/webpage The Truth about Communion at http://www.powerofaith.com/communion.htm Communion is "Not" a huge religious ceremony to be done under the supervision of a religious guru or with a large crowd of people. It is personal and something you do to remember Christ whether you are alone or no matter where you are whenever you eat! That's how you celebrate and remember Jesus Christ! We are to do it every day, not once a year. Christmas, as wonderful as it is, is more of a "Man Made" holiday that actually does little to remember Christ, where communion is something that will truly honor him every day. What I find interesting is, one of the specific times mentioned in the bible that we are told to give to others, is just the opposite, when we "don't" eat, or rather, when we fast! Isaiah 58:7 - "Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry And bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh? To learn the true meaning of Fasting read: http://www.powerofaith.com/fast.htm HAPPY BIRTHDAY? Jesus Christ is usually put second to everyone else on his birthday. Some Churches close their doors on Christmas day, and on those rare years when Christmas falls on a Sunday, Some Churches cancel their services. They don't want to inconvenience their members from enjoying the day, and those who choose to hold service on that day find a very low attendance. (How dare that Jesus inconvenience us on his birthday!) THE NERVE! As I said before, I'm not poo pooing Christmas. I also love the feeling in the air and all that, and I vote "We Keep It", but, lets face it, it does little to honor Christ! If you really want to honor Christ, do it the way he asked you to do it. When you have breakfast today, "Remember him". When you have lunch today, "Remember him" and when you have dinner today, "Remember Him". Then do the same tomorrow and the day after . . etc . . . That's all Jesus asked of you! He didn't say you even had to do it out loud! He didn't say you needed a priest in flowing robes to supervise and feed you while you do it and he didn't say you had to do it with a crowd of people. Neither did he tell you what to eat! What he asked was simple. Whenever you eat or drink, "REMEMBER ME". Lets face it, if you truly want to honor Christ, he told you specifically how to do it! He didn't say to crawl on broken glass or carry a load of bricks around your yard for hours a day, he simply said: "REMEMBER ME", and told you when to do it, and it only takes a minute. While your at it, you might want to take a minute and remember Jesus Christ on Christmas also. After all, it is supposed to be his birthday!
