~ THE SECOND DEATH ~

THE POWER OF ANGELS AND DEMONS

~ HOW DO ANGELS AND DEMONS FIGHT AGAINST EACH OTHER? ~
~ WHAT KIND OF POWER DO ANGELS AND DEMONS HAVE? ~
~ WHAT WEAPONS DO THEY USE? ~
~ DO ANGELS AND DEMONS DIE? ~
~ SPIRITUAL WARFARE ~

Exactly how angels and demons fight and war against each other is not completely clear in the bible, or by what means, or what weapons or powers they use. (With the exception of flaming swords etc . . .) However, I suspect that spiritual warfare would be on a level that would be beyond our comprehension.

In 2 Samuel, there is an account of an angel

stretching out his hand to destroy Jerusalem. On one hand it gives the impression that the angel is about to use a power a force that could destroy an entire city with a simple wave of his hand. (Very awesome power)

On the other hand, was this meant metaphorically? EXAMPLE: Let's say a man comes home drunk and beats his wife. It could easily be said that he "Raised his hand to her". (As you can see - very similar)

2 Samuel 24:16 - When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD relented from the calamity and said to the angel who destroyed the people, "It is enough! Now relax your hand!" And the angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. (See also 1 Chronicles 21:15)

~ SPIRITUAL WARFARE ~

Revelation 8:5 - Then the angel took the censer and filled it with the fire of the altar, and threw it to the earth; and there followed peals of thunder and sounds and flashes of lightning and an earthquake.

Isaiah 37:36 - Then the angel of the LORD went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men arose early in the morning, behold, all of these were dead.

By whatever means they use, they are no doubt powerful. Let's face it, one angel vs 185,000 Assyrian's, and the scripture would lead you to believe that all those corpses were simply "discovered" in the morning, meaning there were no sounds of fighting, no thunder, no earthquakes or any other evidence that there was a fierce battle.
(It didn't even wake anyone up!) The Assyrian's were simply found "DEAD". One hundred and eighty five thousand of them to be exact! So, compared to what we comprehend as power, just "one" angel is beyond our comprehension.

According to scripture, I don't believe it is possible to kill an angel or demon, at least not as we understand death. As mortal humans, we tend to associate death with non existence, but death for us is simply a transition and relocation. Our body or soul
(Meaning that which lives and breaths) dies and decays, but our spirit lives and moves on (or is carried) to another place. Our spirit never dies. Neither do angels or demons die, as they are already spirits.

Angels and demons "are" spirit and every account that I know of shows them being "confined" to an unpleasant place such as hell, the abyss or bottomless pit as opposed to being extinguished or ceasing to exist.

EXAMPLES:

Revelation 20:1 - Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand.
Revelation 20:2 - And he laid hold of the dragon, the serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;
Revelation 20:3 - and he threw him into the abyss, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he would not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were completed; after these things he must be released for a short time.

2 Peter 2:4 - For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell (tartarus-a condition of restraint, imprisonment or incarceration) and committed them to pits of darkness, reserved for judgment;

~ OTHER EXAMPLES OF THE POWER OF ANGELS ~

Revelation 21:8 - "But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."

When speaking about marriage, Jesus said:

Luke 20:36 - for they cannot even die anymore, because they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.

So, death for angels, and the "second death" for humans more resembles prison as opposed to a "death sentence". Anyway, I don't know of an instance where an angel or demon has been killed or died in the way we think of death. (non existence)

~ DO ANGELS AND DEMONS HAVE A SOUL? ~

As to whether angels and demons have a soul is debatable, since they are spirit beings. The fact that they (angels at least) can appear in human form at will, makes that question very interesting.

Hebrews 13:2 - Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.

Check back, as I will be writing more on this subject.
